At first, I was apprehensive about going outside. People over the age of 70 or those with serious underlying medical conditions were advised to self-isolate in order to reduce the risk of serious illness from COVID-19. I assessed my risk and decided to venture out for a brief time while maintaining physical distancing rules. As I continued my walks during the pandemic, I could not get over the freshness of the air. There was a spring in my step. I became acutely aware of my surroundings. The ordinary act of walking became imbued with feelings of gratitude and pleasure.
