The “Katherine Cove” series followed the initial experiments with stitching fabric and paper onto 5 x 7 inch photographs of the granite rock platform at Katherine Cove. I increased the size of the print to 8 x 12 inches and then to 12 x 18 inches. Each increment in scale allowed a larger space to play with materials. Cotton painted with acrylic or Colour Vie pigments, assorted fabric, paper and objects were integrated with the underlying photographic depiction of the rock. The beauty of the Cove as well as the memory of the visit with my family distilled a sense of discovery and renewal. Also concurrent with the awareness of beauty came concerns about sustainability.
